CHRISTOPH RAITMAYR

18/01/2023 – 25/02/2023

it is only noticeable on closer inspection: the top of the bell tower of this church model does not point upwards as usual. the bell tower has been angled by christoph raitmayr and points in a direction that seems unusual or even disturbing. an inconspicuous but meaningful change. in a similarly subtle way, the artist also creates irritations in other architectural models: doors lead nowhere, windows seduce us into a false impression of space. these are irritations that unsettle our sense of space.
these are irritations that unsettle our sense of space. it touches us because these architectural models are nothing abstract but represent living, working and living space. spaces are primarily meant to protect us. when these spaces are designed in an unusual way, it creates uncertainty and can even have an oppressive effect.
