the spirit realm has served as a source of inspiration for art and culture from the very beginning. artist ronald kodritsch takes a cheerfully ironic approach with his “witty” pictures. his ghosts refer to those images and representations we make of the supernatural and the otherworldly. they see themselves as zeitgeists commenting on the zeitgeist. they are cheeky, impudent and politically incorrect bed sheets that satirise those fleeting manifestations, insubstantial wrappings and disembodied deviants of contemporary taste without exhausting themselves in their irony. even if the artist’s view of the present and the past may express itself in superficially light-footed and humorous paintings and sculptures, his pictorial inventions are based on cultural-historical reflections, attentive observations and political awareness.
