the biologist johannes kostenzer from innsbruck shows photo prints. using alternative photographic processes, he draws our attention to the emotional impact and impression of landscape on the individual—while acknowledging that even the best photographic work can never fully or universally reflect personal feelings on site.
the recordings shown here were taken in france, croatia and austria. kostenzer has devoted himself to photographic printing techniques for several years, such as albumen printing, argyrotype, surface printing and cyanotype. the latter, for example, suits Kostenzer’s focus—the effect of landscape on the human soul—especially well. in his works, Kostenzer invites the viewer to surrender to the detail, the throttling and the change in dimension and perspective.
