despite all the seemingly objective, scientific quality, schmierer’s paintings are often fresh and sensual. despite the apparent purism, his concept of abstraction can be seen in a broader sense and brought into the context of everyday life. with his polaroid paintings, he goes back to the analogue polaroid photo, which he uses as the frame subject for his painting.
