anemona crisan

anemona crisan's preferred medium is drawing. the artist perceives the genesis of her works, varying in format from paper and canvas to extensive installations, as a corporeal argument between architecture and the human being. adhering to this artistic stance, crisan advocates her perception of the relationship between body and space and thus her installations revolve around the architectonic space, i.e. space that has been conceived and stimulated by human beings., which enters into a reciprocal relationship with the individual. the artist describes her work with space as a very personal appropriation of architecture. when it comes to the shape of her spatial works, in which she tries to open up static spaces by means of lines and cubes and fill the spaces with figures, the aim is to utilize them, not to possess them. crisan’s works invite beholders to expose themselves to this architectural play and then find their own way through the spaces moved by her, discover perspectives that only the recipients can discover in this work from their point of view – at once private and yet in a public space, thrown back unto themselves and at the same time part of the public view.
the present exhibition of the artist features a spatial intervention encompassing her latest series of black-and-white works which she uses to further dedicate herself to the abstraction of the human form. she disassembles the concept of the body into its inner structures, structures that take effect beneath the surface, frameworks that represent inner structures and form personalities. interestingly, these inner structures lack any sort of firm connection as they rather appear to be stable basic forms that become intertwined, loosely connected and flexible in their alignment to one another. the artist makes use of a physical and technical design vocabulary that she transgresses masterfully to make both psychological and emotional conditions visible. massive components that call for foundation and that are yet only held in position by the presence of other components in an equilibrium suffused with a kind of volition that is present, but not shown.
anemona crisan’s works never focus on specific individuals and their personal situation, but on fundamental experiences that every person has to live through. hence, one of her basic motifs is the shape of the human head, which she formulates with the help of light as an atmospheric-spatial element to make the essence of a thinking and at the same time thought-up body present.
